Comments :	Currently For Sale on EBAY - Mileage 160002 Pre-loved VW Beetle looking for new owner to carry out a complete restoration project. One owner since registration in 1974. Vehicle needs complete reassembly and has been dismantled over the years to treat rust. Most of the original parts are still available and included in the sale (wheels, seats, headlights, steering wheel). Vehicle has been off road for around 15 years and kept in a garage. Engine and gear box have both been replaced. The mileage is over 100,000. Original engine was replaced and mileage is thought to be around 60,000 for the reconditioned engine.

Comments :	I bought it from a Mrs Flowerday in Wingerworth, Chesterfield who told me it was supplied new by VW agents, Scotts of Sloane Square after having been the display car for VW at the Earl's Court motor show. I had it resprayed during my ownership by VW agents in Chesterfield, Gordon Lamb ltd. Fitted with Kamei front spoiler and rear deck lid shield, engine rebuilt after 100k miles with Engle cam and Reece fish carb etc. Sold it in the mid 1980s when living in High Wycombe and heard it was damaged in a road accident involving a fatality. Picture of it attached in the early 1980s alongside out 1962 beetle. Would love to find and restore it. Date of last V5C (logbook) issued: 14 June 2012

Comments :	Michael Barrett had this car for over 10 years and was last mot'd in August 2011. Where it had done 83,490 miles. To this day it has still the same mileage as it was not driven from mot station. Was transported back to Michael's yard where it has remained. From new to 1989 it had done 76.746 miles as from an old MOT. So from 1989 to 2019, 30 years it's done 6,744 miles. When Michael brought this car it had been garaged not in use for over 15 years. It was a project that has basically stopped. The car is complete as you can see in pictures, and comes with keys for both ignition and glove box. Minimal paperwork other than 2 previous MOT's and a original handbook. The car starts and runs with the key, but the earth wires or starter may need looking at as today it was just clicking. But has been running fine in the last few weeks. The car had 3 small welded plates on floor last month and has been fully undersealed. The metal wheels have been sandblasted and primed too. The car itself looks a bit rough but nearly all is surface marks and flaky paint where someone tried painting the lower doors etc in cream to look two tone. The car is solid throughout apart from a small amount of rust on one of the side steps. And some small dents below the handle of the bonnet. Mileage: 84,490 Currently for sale on EBay

Comments :	ORIGINAL FACTORY 1600cc ENGINE WITH ORIGINAL MILES 79k LAST MAIN SERVICE STAMP IN THE FACTORY VW SERVICE BOOK WAS 22/04/1999 AT 72k AND THE LAST MOT RAN OUT IN 2003 WITH JUST 78,951 This is with great regret I'm having to sell my old bug due to unforeseen circumstances this is a very rare gem indeed I've had it stored for nearly 2 years awaiting a concourse restoration the previous owner Carl owned it for the best part off nearly 22 years off which in storage for 15 years...the bug starts on the button everytime and drives and idles fine newly serviced with fresh oil,petrol pump etc...stainless exhaust too...an excellent strong quick 1600 engine.. This is a complete original factory car with only one re paint...original interior and carpets so some fading and wear to be expected but we all love that!rear seat belts fitted...excellent ragtop/headliner You can see in the pictures the old girl is weathered all over awaiting a fresh makeover or run around as is. The bugs electrically system is unhacked everything works like it left the factory,one key fits all the locks,doors boot and boot lid close perfectly,all the factory sound proof rattling card still in situ under the rear seat/under the bonnet skin and trunk liner is all there... There's rust to deal with but not a lot I've been quoted around £800 and that's properly done not bodged! The hand brake works fine but the front calipers and discs need changing along with all the brake hoses a little amount off cost to get this back to a daily driver. Look at the pictures it's a very straight car and the lines are perfect. Refurbed GT rims with excellent tyres all round including the factory rare VW centre caps and wheel bolt covers! The always missing Factory VW handbook/service book and diagnosis & maintenance punch cards included also along with the Tudor webasto warranty card for when the sunroof was fitted only 10 months from new included too...along with various old receipts and mot's. Comments :	Currently for sale on EBay Mileage: 15,521 1974 Volkswagen rhd 1303S Beetle who goes by the name of Raphael! I have owned “Raph” for the last 6 years and not only is he my constant companion to and from work but we have had some amazing trips and holidays around the UK. He is a very solid example for a 40+ year old car and over the years he has been very well looked after as can be seen from the photos. The floor, heater channels, sills etc are all solid, and has excellent paint work. He came into my possession with a brand new Vege green 1600 engine and over the years nothing has been spared to keep him in top condition and running well. Since being in my possession, I had a new piston & barrel set to the engine fitted (2011), had the Solex carb refurbished (2013), and had a new steering box fitted (2014). Last year the body had a repaint (2015) and new running boards and trim fitted. The brakes were completely overhauled with new master cylinder, callipers, wheel cylinders etc, and most recently fitted a new silencer, new battery, and 4 new tyres. Everything works well as it should and he will run very comfortably at 60-70 mph and is such fun to drive; he’s a real head turner and looks amazing. He is MOT’d till May 2016 and is also TAX EXEMPT

Comments :	I am interested to know what became of my own Big Beetle (ANB 707M) and if any of your subscribers/readers have any information on it? It was a 1974 Moss Metallic Big beetle – at the time I sold it fitted with 6x14 white pressed metal wheels (sacrilege with hindsight!) although I did give the original 5 1/2 Js with the car. I bought the car new from William Arnold’s in Manchester and kept it for about 14 years. It was in good condition when I let it go, having had all the usual stuff – heater channels, quarter panels, wings, engine, gearbox etc and a good respray. If anyone knows of its present status I would be really interested.

Comments :	Previously For Sale on EBay This late 1973 (left the factory on 13th November 1973 and was shipped to Ramsgate) The 1303S special addition Beetle is finished in eye catching Hellas Metallic gold with a number of period options. The history folder indicates that the Bug went into storage in 1986, did not emerge until 2012 and sailed through her MOT in 2014. During the two year restoration the owner completed a full body and mechanical restoration, mainly around the wheel arches and with the whole floorpan stripped back and restored. Most panels replaced are rare parts sourced including original KTS wheels and KAMEI front spoiler. The car was originally Ontario Blue 95M, but received a respray in Hellas Gold 98C. On the road the car drives extremely well - the 1600cc engine, later brakes and alternator really does make this a Beetle capable of dealing with modern road conditions. The later styling with larger wraparound windows, elephant foot rear lamps, cloth/vinyl seats, and larger speedo work well with the metallic paint and the car draws attention wherever you park The interior is to the original specification - the larger glass area makes for a bright environment and seats, dashboard, roof lining, carpets etc. are all in very good condition. The history folder has the MOT history since restoration, pictures of the car when she was sold from storage, CD with lots of images, VW heritage certificate etc. Known as 'Nugget' and was purchased by Lee on 20th Aug 2020. All the welding has been done , to a high standard by a well known local VW specialist . It is very original ,I have the original Keys . it came of the road september 1988 and i was told it had sat in a garage all that time . New parts included are , front calipers , rear brakes , genuine headlamps ,running boards (German ) , top mounts , etc . The interior is outstanding , with no rips or or defects . the door cards are perfect never been cut for door speakers . the rear shelf has some discolouring due to sun light . The engine is original but out of the car and is stripped as there was no compression on 1 and 2.

Comments :	Hi from Australia.wanted to let you know that a VW 1303S Big Beetle has surfaced in Australia.Chassis number1342236710.I bought it a month ago and up until then was a one owner car.Purchased in 1973 in England and came to Australia in the same ship as its owner.The original owner is now 92 and living in a nursing home.Family sold the car. The car is in beautiful condition.The owner loved her car ,had it painted in original moss green and new carpets. It has a factory vinyl roof and webasto sun roof.Have not seen any others like it on your web page. I am putting high back seats in the car and getting front and back reupholsted in bamboo beige. Original 175 70 15 tyres are not available in Australia so have to come from the US. Nobody in Aust has heard of this car which I believe would be the only one. Motoring writer in Melbourne recognized it for what it was. An article will be written on it next year. Nobody believes me when I say this car is wider than the Superbug.Bumper bars wider and seat runners wider.The seats will be the only non original Parts on the car. Will send a photo when car is back on the road. The only thing I had to replace was the running boards. Comments :	This is a rare opportunity to buy a beautiful Beetle which was my means of transport to 6th form school many years ago.............I am selling it on behalf of my father who originally bought it for me when I passed my driving test all those years ago(I am now 43!) It really was my pride and joy and a real head-turner wherever you went! I still remember the day my dad met me from school in it!!! My father has kept hold of the vehicle as he couldn't bear to part with it but unfortunately the time has come to move to a smaller house and therefore it has to go.............The car has been kept outside for many years so unfortunately the bodywork has suffered and it does need some TLC; it also hasn't run for quite a while so will need to be towed away or put onto a vehicle for transportation. I think that the car is fine structurally but as mentioned it needs a refurbishement and some time spent on it to bring it back to its former glory. As can be seen from the photographs someone visiting the house was careless with a ladder and snapped a wing mirror and the small quarter light on the drivers side. Although it has been outside you can see how well the vehicle has been built and that it has stood the test of time. The car is a rare 1303S so it has the more powerful 1600 engine which makes it a lot quicker than the 1300. Although the car had a tail-fin spoiler and front spoiler it doesn't look 'over-modified'; in fact it suits the vehicle and as I said before it was a real head-turner. We also have two of the original wheels and tyres, a new set of mud-flaps still in their wrapping, a new unfitted zoom tube for the exhaust and various handbooks. My father has had many Beetles over his lifetime and this must have been his favourite; he bought it from a doctor in London and caught the train to go and collect it personally. I'm sure that any enthusiast who has some spare time would absolutely LOVE this car and would have many more years of fun from this unique vehicle. It will be a sad day when our Beetle is sold so we hope it sells to someone who will lovingly restore it and have as much fun from it as we have. Currently For Sale on EBAY Mileage: 77,635

I had quite a lot a work done my House of Haselock in Nuneaton which cost me double the car's original price of £1200 - I think my Dad got about £60 discount. I do remember there was an extra document with the car to certify conformity with EU type approval (because it was a special edition) but I don't think I have this any more. We christened him Bert and still miss him but with four children now he wouldn't have coped.

While the paint needs attention it does appear to have retained all it's original features (rear rubber bumper trim in car) and is in unmolested condition (although I cannot say what it is like underneath). If anyone is interested I understand they are looking for £2000 for the car which is located at Wooleys Service Station (01953 850428) in the village of Hingham just outside Norwich. Comments :	We purchased the car on 28th August 2004 from first owner with only 43,000 miles, full service history, original bill of sale and order confirmation, all old MOT's and the first tax disc. The previous owner had given up driving due to her age and the car needed only a light restoration as it had been wax oiled when new. What was meant to be a 4 month restoration turned into 4 years,due to family commitments. The car had no rust and no welding had ever been necessary, much of the original chrome and body panels were re-used. The high back seats were fitted as a safety measure and new seat covers were fitted along with door cards (still have the original interior which is in superb condition). On its first outing it won Best Club Stand Car at Battlesbridge Car Show which made all the hard work and effort worthwhile.

Comments :	It is with a heavy heart that i am having to sell my 1303s. It have MOT till July and tax till june, it is the big beetle edition, it is in original condition with some surface rust to the body but the underside looks to be in very good condition partly because of the low mileage but also because it has been undersealed most of its life. 3 previous owners, all from the same family. Bought new, sold to neice in 1979 who owned till 2006, bought by daughter in 2006 with intentions to restore for her son to learn to drive. I bought it in Oct 2008 with intentions to restore this summer. Having just found out the wife is pregnant, priorities change and i need a sensible car. I have put 4,000 miles on it, starts first time, every time in the rain or snow. Have had no mechanical problems, body work seems very stiff and should last quite a long time untouched but is prime for a restore. The heaters work and warm the car up really well. Volkszone Thread

Comments :	VW Super Beetle was renovated a few years prior to my purchase in 2004, including a new engine. The car had new tyres in 2004 and they still retain 70% of the tread. The car was originally metallic blue but had been repainted white. The car starts, drives, and sounds superb. The brakes (front) are binding slightly and the body work is good. The car has mainly been used as part of an activities programme to stimulate EMI residents. I think very liitle work would be needed for the MOT (Brakes being the main item). The car fires first time and drives generally well. I like to think that i have finally got beetle mania out of my system. I would like to say there isn't a reserve price but I am expecting around £500 for the car. The car also benefits of very low classic car insurance £125.00 comp per year based on 2000 miles per year. I had all the MOTs from 1992. At present I have 1994, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003. I also have the original sale invoice and warranty from beetlemania to the previous owner. Majority of the maintenance had been done by beetlemania of London until 2003. Carburetor (Solex) was replaced on 19/05/2002 including some of the steel piping. Comments :	Advert on www.carandclassic.co.uk The MOT runs until 30th August 2008 and the tax the end of May. It is not tax exempt unfortunately – missed that by 6 months. Insurance is also very reasonable. We have had the car in the family for 10 years now and it’s always been totally reliable and is great fun to drive. It certainly turns heads and raises comments wherever you seem to go. There have only been 3 owners since new! All ladies too. The car comes with original log books and FULL SERVICE HISTORY!! The beetle still has the original engine - 65k on the clock - genuine miles. The car drives very well with a nice solid feel to it, unlike my first beetle! The car comes with a box of new and used spare odds and ends including paint that I had matched to the colour. The interior is well presented. There is a new CD player with USB for your mp3s and new speakers in the rear. The carpets are in great condition and has been kept clean by constant use of rubber mats. The heater to the floor is very good, And I have installed an extra heater for the screen which is powered by the lighter socket. It means that the screen clears up without you having to open the window in the cold weather! The engine always starts immediately hot, cold or sub zero. It doesn’t smoke, drip oil, or make odd noises. It has a standard exhaust with new tail pipes. All gears select perfectly. There is very little cosmetic rust to be seen, 2 wings and the bonnet have recently been resprayed. All of the window rubbers have been replaced. The running boards are in excellent condition and there are lots of shiny aluminum detailing making the car look quite special. I have just fitted 2 new bumpers to the car which makes it look shiny new.

Comments :	HISTORY We have records of this car (service receipts and equipment fitted) going back to 1988. My daughter purchased her in 1993. As it turned out she was a bad buy. From lack of Beetle experience and naivity we didn’t look closely enough at the important places. After struggling with her for a year it became obvious that she was going to be a constant struggle to keep safely on the road and in the long run she was heading for the knacker’s yard. We chose the alternative and took her off the road for three years during which we spent several thousand pounds and many hundreds of hours on her to bring her up to a good looking, safe and reliable vehicle. My daughter then drove her regularly until 2004. Since then she has been on the road only intermittently as my daughter trained to be a driving instructor and needed a more modern car. Alice has been mostly kept in my garage during this last four years and as I really would like my garage back and we would like someone else to enjoy Alice we have decided to sell her. CONDITION You can see Alice’s current top condition from the first four photographs. She was re-sprayed after our renovation 10 years ago; this top coat is getting a bit tired now and is showing some blistering in places, a few thinness spots and the usual chips. Some corrosion has appeared along the edge seams, at the bottom corners of the doors and at a few other spots; all of this has been treated and over-painted. This said you can see that she still polishes up very well and continues to look generally good. In the longer term a re-spray would, with little preparation, easily bring her back to tip-top condition. What is very special about Alice though is what lies beneath the surface. In the renovation she was stripped out thoroughly, de-rusted, repaired and then given a protective Hammerite coating inside and out. She was partly rewired and her engine stripped down and rebuilt. All areas like suspension, steering and brakes were dismantled and rebuilt with new components where necessary. All seals, window rubbers, door rubbers and gaskets were replaced. The interior was re-carpeted and the original seating was good enough to be kept with minor repairs. Photos five to ten show examples of some of this and the interior [No 7 is from the renovation period]. Nov 2020 - EBay sale: Currently for sale on EBay Bought this beetle 3 months ago now as i've always wanted a 1303s model with the 1600 engine and matching gearbox just to see what it was like compared to my 1300 beetle.... "Rex" the 1303S is certainly a big difference , plenty of power throughout the driving range. Drove Rex home 100 miles no problem at all up the M6 motorway back to Scotland from the Lancaster area - sat at 65 to 70mph all the way. Another few trips locally on various days and overall mileage covered recently is close to 500miles Limited edition Big Beetle model and don't see too many pop up for sale especially in Blue. Still has the original blue carpets and seats albeit they are 46 years old now. Also has the correct padded steering wheel and wooden gearknob and wide 5.5J GT wheels as per special model specs. Overall this is still a great car but he does now need some tlc in various places - he's now MOT exempt and can jump in and drive away right now and i still pop out to the shops or for parts in him the odd day but please bear in mind as good as the photos look he is now showing various signs of ageing in the paintwork with various large bubbles appearing in quite a lot of places so do not expect a show winning car. GOOD PONTS: New battery, new front calipers and discs, 4 new tyres just over 12 months ago with receipts Engine serviced / oil changed 6 months ago and i've recently changed the oil again. Fibreglass wings all round in great condition Heater connected and very good Original heavy duty bumpers both still in great condition and rear bumper has over riders fitted 1600 engine has been replaced at some point and has no end float - runs great New wiper blades, electric washers fully working BAD POINTS: Slight clutch slip when driven really hard - it's reasonably ok when easy on the acc pedal. It did this when i test drove the car and then somehow disappeared but the issue seems to have come back slightly. Usual minor oil leak from flywheel area so i guess clutch plate may be getting a drop on it Heater channel bottom plate needs repaired on driver's side - couple of holes present Various big bubbles in the paint on the gutters and in many other locations Slightly scruffy underneath in places with old underseal and paint flaking off - could benefit from a thorough wire brush and undersealed - various repairs to framehead have been carried out in the past Repair plate required next to front brake pipe mount on passenger side

Comments :	I've owned this neat little car since 1999, but now I must let it go. The ownership history is as follows: - Date of purchase new was 13 Nov 1973. Then she was sold to a chap called John Roberts on 23 July 1976. John ran this car until 11 June 1999 which is when I bought her for my wife to use. She is more of a bug-head than I am. The car was a moss green colour and the paint was somewhat faded. She also needed a little care and attention, but that was superficial. In 2004 I sent her in for a makeover and she came back the colour, which is Mercedes Green. I liked it and that is the colour she has remained. We also christened her “Mercedes” which we all know is a name given to a girl child. That is how she has been treated all these years, with love and attention. She has a great presence on the road and the engine is the original as listed in the log book. I have previously been asked if the mileage is original, and can honestly say that my wife only used the car for short runs, to the shop and back and once in a while we took her to Scotland. She starts first time every time and is ready to roll without having to wait for that warm-up malarkey. I have once again examined her all over and report the following information. The engine and gearbox are mechanically perfect in every respect, no end float nor irregular noises. Instant start and instant response. I've taken her over 85mph on the East Lancs. and she runs and handles well. No creaks or groans. No binding of the brakes and handles well overall. Engine could do with a little makeup if desired, by that I mean cosmetically. Absolutely no mechanical work needed. Body wise, she was refurbished in January 2004 at a cost of £1175.00 by a professional body shop. The invoice is available for examination subject to purchase. On examining the bodywork today I can report that there is no significant work to be done, although I would advocate that the under body be re-rubberised. It helps to deaden the road noise and protects as well. There is some cosmetic work to be done obviously, but that is all. No welding or bodywork required. Comments :	Extensive restoration was done by the previous owner, so car is in great condition, inside and out, with only a couple of slight cosmetic blemishes on the paintwork, but nothing really noticeable until right up close. All the interior was restored (new carpets/upholstery) and still retains all of the original features and charm. Since I've owned it, I've had the engine completely replaced with a new Remtec 1600cc (Aug 2006), a new clutch, new heat exchange, replaced the carburator, replaced the fuel lines, had the electrics rewired. Comments :	Currently For Sale on EBAY My wife and I bought this car shortly after our honeymoon in September 2007 and we have really enjoyed having her. Talk about a great buy, she is so solid and has NEVER let us down. We stumbled accross her whilst away camping and fell in love with her straight away. She started her life as a courtesy car at a Volkswagen dealership back in the 1970's. In later years she was bought by a lovely family who had her for the remainder until we came along. The car needed alot of work when they bought her and the son being a qualified engineer spent a number of years rebuilding her: all new suspension, quick shift gear box, clutch, body panels, seals, lights, rebuilt engine, etc. I mean she was overhauled. The car had sat for15 years in a garage being started up occassionally to keep the engine ticking over and the reason it was sold was because it was not being used. They even ran it through a new MOT in September 2007 at the very own Volkswagen dealership she started her life. They did a structural and mechanical survey and the only thing needed doing was the replacement of 2 tyres as they had buldges from where it sat still for all those years. She is 98% rust free, with slight bobbling on the rear wheel arch (no drama) and the upholstery is ripped as you can see but because it is original we decided not to change it.

Comments :	I have recently found your site featuring 'big' beetles and wondering if you would be interested to hear about mine, which I eventually had to scrap. I have been interested in beetles since I was a child, and when I was fourteen my father deceided to buy an old beetle which needed work. It was a silver '74 1303s with black stripes, GT wheels, blue cord interior and wood effect dashboard which we found sitting in a barn in Norfolk. The car was taken home on a trailer and spent the next year sitting in our garage until my dad needed the money and he sold it to our nearest Beetle garage. I was heartbroken. Several years later, aged 19, I was driving my first car (an '85 polo) back from work when I saw it coming the other way. After a quick u-turn I managed to find it again in Sainsburys car park. I waited for about 45 minutes while the owner did his shopping and gave him my number and said if he ever wanted to sell it to give me a call. A few months I received a call from the owner who said he wanted to sell it as the MOT was running out. I bought it straight away and took it home only for it fail the MOT spectacularly, mostly on body corrosion. I spent the next year trying to find a garage who was willing to fix it but was told numerous times that it was too far gone. My last chance was my dad's mechanic who said if I bought him a new welder he would sort out the bodywork. He made a start but also had to admit defeat. I deceided the best thing to do was buy a better car and transfer the parts, so in 2001 I bought an '73 1303 which was rough but serviceable. I scrapped the 'big' beetle and used as many of the parts I could, including the bonnet, spare wheel, wing mirrors, bumpers, carpet, silver edged horn push and wood effect dash. Unfortunately the beetle I had bought had US highback seats which were safer and smarter than the faded blue seats so they were scrapped with the car as I had nowhere to store them. Purchased from Contim Motors (Hillingdon), Hayes, Middlesex on the 25/6/74. The earliest paperwork I have for it is from November 1982 from Norwich Volkswagen dealership Robinsons.

Update 12-04-2012: As of today i know own what i believe to be a big beetle. it is in poor condition but as i restore beetles as a hobby/ semi professionally this is my next project. - paid £500 for it with a restored chassis/floor pans and lowered springs/ shocks and neoprene new bushes and brakes all round [ oh and 4 off 7x15 inch porsche cookie cutters with excellent perelli p4000's tyres prob worth £250 in thier own right] I have just finished a MAJOR (£8k in parts alone) restro on a 68 1500 beetle ( one of the first 1500's) for a customer so i think this one is a slightly easier task - just new heater channels and two new front 1/4's, a front valence and o/s rear inner wing chassis mount panel - oh and a secondhand front scuttle in front of the windscreen - usual re paint and a re trim out.. !!! engine to be detailed with the usual blasted and powder coated tin, along with those lovely wheels too - same process. - should be fun

Comments :	Currently for sale on EBay Mileage: 99,000 Miles VW Beetle 1303s 1600 engine. This car has good Volkswagen service history and a low ownership. The V5 is in my name and it shows two former keepers. Mileage is 99,000 The body was rebuilt last year using new old stock doors, one new heater channel, and other poor metal cut out and replaced. All new seals used body and glass, new exterior trim and bumper rechromed. Wheels recently refurbed with new hankook tyres. (All five) Interior is from an older refurb but looks good. Original headlining used. I fitted a nos 1970s blaupunkt radio. New speaker required. Front spoiler. Resprayed last year in metallic beetle green. Car looks really good and drives well when it is running right. I recently went out in it and it developed a misfire and eventually stopped. I found out that there was a fuel shortage, I blew down the fuel line and it started again. But unfortunately it stopped again after 3 miles. There was a vacuum in the fuel line. (Tank to carb). The windscreen washer works off the spare wheel but there must be a slow leak as the tyre goes flat. ( Tyre not punctured). Small crack in the dash. I have just got fed up and I am selling it due to frustration. The car lives outside. Viewing welcome and in my opinion first to see will buy. I am trying to price it to sell. Someone will get a bargain Will need to be trailered away unless it goes to a local buyer.

Comments :	VW Big Beetle Home History In 1990 I was on the lookout for my first car. I had for many years wanted a VW Beetle. I spotted one in the paper for £200 and went to have a look at it. It was a 1970 1200 that had been fitted with a 1300 engine. It was on it's last legs. The owner said the only way to get it to start was to pour a little petrol down the carb first. I decided to give it a miss. A few weeks later after no success in finding a cheap reasonable Beetle my Dad and I decided to go to the local car dealer to look at some 'modern' cars, i.e. Ford Escorts and the like. To my suprise, hidden round the back of the garage was a silver 1303S. Straight away I was hooked although at £1500 is was well out of my budget. The test drive was interesting. The garage owner kept selecting reverse when we were travelling forward (later found to be a wrongly aligned gear lever base plate). This hadn't put me off and I decided I had to have it. The garage owner said that a girl was ready to buy it but couldn't get the cash. My parents kindly borrowed the money for me and I paid them back each week over a few years. First thing I did was to get it up on the ramps. After much prodding and poking it was apparent that the heater channels were on their way out. I bit the bullet and decided to do a full restoration. Seventeen years later, I still own my Big Beetle. It is now parked up at my parents ready for it's second restoration. My daily driver is now a Silver VW Polo due to the distances I have to travel. Comments :	Currently For Sale on EBAY http://www.aircooledunlimited.co.uk History Our ‘Big Beetle’ was produced on 14th November 1973. And was then sold by Bridge Motor Works (Leicester) Ltd. Abbey Lane, Leicester (the main VW Dealers in Leics. at that time) to Mr Roger Whiteman on February 8th 1974. After almost 2 years Roger (who was emigrating) sold the car to his father. Mr Tom Whiteman kept the car until 6th April 1977, when he part-exchanged it for a VW Golf at Johnson’s Garages (Hinckley) Ltd. In June 1977 Mrs. Kathleen Derbyshire, of Groby, Leics. purchased it. She had the car for just over 6 years, when she passed away her husband, Mr. John Derbyshire, then owned the car for a further 5 years, when he too passed away. The car then went to his nephew, Mr. Leslie Cooper, of South Wigston, Leics. He kept the car until December 1992, when he sold it to Paul Mann as a spares or repair, MOT failure. Paul was unfortunately made redundant and could not afford to fix the car; he then sold it to us on 6th July 1993. At some time the car has been fitted with a sun-roof. We restored the car & in 1995 had it re-sprayed in the original colour. It has been used as a daily driver since 1998 & is not garaged. We are no longer using the original engine but still has 1600 TP. We are now at the point where another re-spray needs doing! Comments :	The car is in excellent condition. I have had it for over 4 years and has been an incredibly reliable car. Before me drastic work was carried out on it, stripped down to the chasis and pretty much re built. Since I have had it, it has only needed routine maintenance for MOTs and a paint job. With the car I can provide an extensive history of the car, including photos of its re build, reciepts of what has been done to the car over the years, registration documents, service history (MOT expires sept 09) and insurance details. The car otherwise known as 'scotty' is in excellent condition for a its age. It was bought for me to learn to drive in, planned to be kept for about a year, it has exceeded our expectations and I have now had it for 4 years and a few months. It is my first car and I would love to pass it onto someone like myself or someone who can maintain its current condition and keep him running regularly. It was in a bit of a state when he got it, but gained a new lease of life after a restoration, and he believes it may be still on the road. The registration number is PKG 741M.
